Lisbon: Trip with my Portu-gal (Part 3)

Ah, the last of the trilogy, and in the spirit of saving the best until last… here comes all of the food and drink highlights!

 

Breakfast

Dear Breakfast – Very minimalist in decór, but definitely not minimalist in customer quantity or portion sizes! I’m normally a savoury breakfast girl, however, this super indulgent chocolate, berry and meringue pancake stack was perfect fuel for a day of sightseeing!

Bowls and Bar – Paired with a florist and a bookshop, this café made for the dreamiest breakfast setting – especially with its traditional Portuguese tiles! Lots of healthy and delicious options, we tried the smoothie bowl and the baked eggs – amazing!

Early Birds – The early bird catches the… poached eggs? We loved the chilled vibe here, and the neon fried egg that I was more than willing to take home for my own dining room! I loved every ingredient of the “avo toast” apart from the avo – you can imagine the confusion when trying to translate “avo toast, no avo” into Portuguese (I know, not liking avocado, in this social age – CRIMINAL!). Lunch/ Dinner

Palacio Chiado – Holy wow, absolute GOALS of a dinner setting – we genuinely felt like royalty walking up the stairs and through the private dining areas. Stunning place, stunning food and stunning service. 10/10.

Timeout Market (Marlene Vieira, Asian Lab & Ground Burger) – Timeout Market was heavy raved about online and I love having the options available to please everyone to whatever cuisine they fancy all at once! Be prepared to queue and be prepared to pounce as soon as a table/ chair/ square-inch of breathing space becomes available. We loved all of the food from the stalls we tried, I only wish we had more time and bigger stomachs to be able to have tried more! It must be a sign that we’ll have to return…

Heif – A perfect lunch spot when in Cascais. Overlooking the sea and the small square, we dined in a private cave-like balcony and I had possibly the tastiest salad I’ve ever eaten!

Village Underground – Located next to Pillar 7, it actually makes heading that way worth it! Very cool setup created from storage containers and an old double-decker bus – it’s amazing what you can salvage with an ounce of creativity and a lick of paint. You can even dine on the top-deck of the bus!

Nogueira’s – This was our first night dinner and I would have happily made it our dinner location for every night. The owner could not have been more hospitable and we felt so valued and welcomed. Not to mention, the amazing steak that my sister devoured and the same went for my cod dish!

Pastel de Bacalhau – The queue was trailing down the street so we knew something good was happening inside this place, and we weren’t wrong! Almost like a cheese melt-in-the-middle fishcake, yes you may walk down the street with melted cheese dribbling down your face, but I can assure you that it’s worth it.

Sweet Treats

Pasteis de Belem – Ah, the infamous Pastel de Nata bakery. A queue like I have never quite seen before for a bakery. However, I can only credit the staff for their efficiency to whip these pastries out to a top standard and at a top speed. You realise the true meaning of Lisbon when you eat one/ ten of these – not to be missed!

Amorimo Chiado (Ice cream Parlour) – The picture says it all. 5 flavours of pure deliciousness and topped off with an ice cream macaron. My kind of dessert… or breakfast, or lunch, or dinner for that matter…

Cocktail Bars

Local – A lush health kitchen, serving healthy(ish) gins. One I wish we’d tried the food at!

To say that we ate and drank well would be an understatement. The plethora of restaurants, cafés and bars to choose from only add to the enjoyment to your trip, or at least they did to ours. Once a pig, always a pig…
